Application Areas

Video Surveillance

Description

This center-to-field application area covers the interface between a center and video surveillance equipment in the field. The video surveillance equipment, consisting of switches, CCTV cameras, and communications infrastructure, provides incident information, traffic images, and surveillance images to a center operator.
This graphic shows the scope of the Center to Field Video Surveillance application area. This scope is described in the preceding text.
National ITS Architecture Interface
This application area includes the interfaces between the center subsystems that can directly control video surveillance equipment and the video surveillance equipment. In each case, the center subsystem controls the video surveillance equipment by sending commands for lens adjustment (zoom), camera positioning (panning the camera left or right or tilting the camera up or down), and video switching (input and output assignments). The video surveillance system responds with high fidelity, real-time images suitable for surveillance monitoring and incident detection and verification. The following specific interfaces in the National ITS Architecture are included:

Traffic Management Subsystem to Roadway Subsystem (RS) for traffic/incident monitoring and management

Maintenance and Construction Management Subsystem to RS for work zone monitoring and management

Emergency Management to Security Monitoring Subsystem (SMS) for security monitoring and surveillance

Applicable Standards

In general, the following standards are applicable to Video Surveillance deployments. To determine which specific standards are applicable for a deployment you will need to determine which architecture flows will be needed for the Video Surveillance piece of your deployment.
